What you will learn
Definition and conditions necessary for combustion. Zones of a flame and their characteristics. Complete and incomplete combustion and their effects. Fire control methods and types of fire extinguishers. NCERT questions and additional practice questions with solutions.
What's Included
Develop a strong understanding of combustion and its applications. Learn practical ways to control fire and handle emergencies. Master NCERT questions and additional important questions. Understand the science behind fire extinguishers.
Curriculum
Module 1: Introduction to Combustion Definition and examples of combustion. Necessary conditions for combustion: Combustible substance. Presence of oxygen. Attainment of ignition temperature. Module 2: Flame and Its Zones Definition of a flame. Structure of a flame: Innermost zone (dark zone). Middle zone (yellow zone). Outermost zone (blue zone). Explanation of the temperature differences in each zone. Module 3: Types of Combustion Complete combustion: Sufficient oxygen supply. Produces carbon dioxide and water. Incomplete combustion: Insufficient oxygen supply. Produces carbon monoxide, soot, and water. Module 4: Harmful Effects of Incomplete Combustion Production of carbon monoxide and its health impacts. Environmental and respiratory issues caused by soot. Module 5: Fire Control Methods to control fire: Cooling with water. Cutting off the oxygen supply using fire extinguishers. Removing combustible substances. Module 6: Fire Extinguishers Types of fire extinguishers and their uses: Water extinguishers: For solid combustibles like wood and paper. Foam extinguishers: For flammable liquids like petrol and oil. Carbon dioxide extinguishers: For electrical equipment fires. Dry powder extinguishers: For flammable gases and metals.
